Utilizing every available space is a priority; the area to the right of the rear side window is large enough to accommodate a magazine rack and is conveniently close to the bed. This will allow for some late night reading. Back to the workshop for some woodworking! The main wood choice is again Cherry in… Continue reading Magazine Rack (1)

Multi-Use Cabinet (7)
Previously I messed up one of the drawer bottoms of the cabinet that I’m making for my (cargo) van conversion. First redo that, then do the top surface with access to the cooktop. After all the major parts have been put together, only the hardware, the finishing and final installation in the van remains. … Continue reading Multi-Use Cabinet (7)
Multi-Use Cabinet (3)
Fitting the cabinet in the van The RV’s cabinet overhangs the step-in area at the side doors. A simple box with a Cherry front will fill that in. The extension at the top of the will cover the end of the core bottom panel. As we are approaching glue-up, it’s time to check… Continue reading Multi-Use Cabinet (3)
Multi-Use Cabinet (2)
Now we have finished the decorative strips, the plywood core will be next. It will hold the drawers and sliding cooktop, while guiding electric and/or gas lines, hidden from view, to and through the floor of the van conversion. The space between the core and the sides also allows for the hinges of the folding… Continue reading Multi-Use Cabinet (2)
Multi-Use Cabinet Drawings
Drawings for the multi purpose cabinet at the side doors of the van are based on a general theme, as reflected in the adjoining image. Many of the features will be incorporated in all of the remaining cabinets and closets. The color theme is a reddish cherry with dark gray decorations. Some of the doors… Continue reading Multi-Use Cabinet Drawings
Additional Rear Door Cabinet
Additional storage space is highly appreciated in my camper, even as small as this little door cabinet. A RV has never enough! As with the other door, I’ll have to find some Cherry and do the assembly in my workshop. I follow the same procedure as the main cabinet that I just finished. I… Continue reading Additional Rear Door Cabinet
Rear Door Cabinetry
Creating the rear door cabinets is the next step in my van conversion. They will add extra storage space, of which every little bit counts in a RV. It involves mostly simple woodworking, so I’ll be heading back to my workshop. First the driver’s side rear door. The red line in the photo indicates the… Continue reading Rear Door Cabinetry
The bed (3)
The area under the bed is divided in compartments, from front to back: batteries, toilet, inverter & solar controller and bed linens with some extra space available on top of the wheel casing. The battery compartment allows a maximum of 4 batteries with a vent hole to the outside. I put the toilet next to… Continue reading The bed (3)
The bed (2)
I am in a bit of a hurry, because I wanted to test the bed out on a trip to South Florida during the holidays. There is a lot of work, but fortunately much of the bed frame was pre-assembled of the last few weeks in my workshop. First I set up a few parts… Continue reading The bed (2)
Rear door panels
Lately I am working on the van, whenever I have an hour available. This time I removed the rear door panels. They were mostly attached with hidden plastic plugs. I’m thinking of slightly enlarging the openings and creating some additional storage area inside the doors.
